Yup, it's an Eldar forum!<br />
<br />
The <a href="http://www.eldarresplendent.co.uk/1/index.php" target="_blank">Eldar Resplendent</a> forum is still young (ironically) but thanks to the new codex I think it has a huge potential to help all the newbies who are converting to our web-ways *haha*. I hope to be quite active on this forum and sharing my 'wisdom', though will surely be getting a lot of ideas from it too.<br />
<br />
I encourage all Eldar players, new and old to try this forum and look around.<br />
<br />
So, see you on the web-way,<br />

Conflict Scotland is an event where the major GW shops in Scotland send teams down to GW HQ, Warhammer World to compete in an Invasion style tournament, mainly to see which is the best shop! It's tense at the moment as the final game is worth the most points but as a general feeling it seems that its too close to call.</p>
<p>So, the games: my first game was against a Sisters of Battle army in a Relic, Hammer and Anvil mission. Saint Celestine was a huge threat and pain but ultimately the quick jetbikes snatched the relic and saved the day. But not after my new Crimson Hunter was shot down the second it arrived! The army was very well painted and the woman commanding it was great fun to play, thanks. </p>
<p>The second game was against a Chaos Nurgle mark list with a Land Raider, Terminators, two squads of Rhino-riding marines and a Defiler who was the bane of all my tanks. It was night-fighting first turn which let me survive to turn to where I cracked both Rhinos and murdered all but 2 of the marines inside with Fire Prism and Nightspinner blasts. My opponent had some horrendous luck but took it like a champ and it paid off as for the rest of the game the remaining Defiler and land Raider refused to give up any more killpoints whilst killing all of my tanks until finally the Raider cracked and I won by mopping up the Terminator killpoint inside. Tense game T, thanks.</p>
<p>So I'm now in-it-to-win-it, all WAAC away for the final game! Then the long bus ride home...<br><br><br>FINAL GAME UPDATE: My last game was against a dark eldar army, filled with ravagers and venoms with a sprinkling of bikes and scourages, basically I was nervous. Even worse was when we started and he got first turn and it was night fighting. I had reserved all of the bikes and castled the tanks so that at turn 2 I was still alive though hadn't killed much either. Then everything came on, the bikes and the hunter and the tanks started shooting. I can't remember exactly what I killed but it was about 1/3 of the tanks and all of the bikes and scourages. Turn 3 for me was a disaster as he passed every single flickerfield save but it was made up for in turn 4 where he couldn't pass any and I rolled only explosions. By then though all but 2 of my bikes were dead, the fire prisms were in flames and the hunter was stunned. But thankfully I was the one who had come off better in the intense fight and the last turns I was thankful for the nightspinner as it cleared the objective and killed the warlord. In-fact, the Nightspinner was the real MVP, really won me this game and I'm so glad I took it over the farseer. This game was also where I really felt on edge, like I was on the verge of losing all the time, but I really wantedto win and I'm sorry to say that I was a horrible WAAC player. Sorry G, you're a very very worthy opponent.
PLACEMENT ANNOUNCEMENT: I knew I did well in gaming scores but I never would've thought that my painting would get full points too. I ended up taking home the gold (no actual gold sadly) in my second proper tournament. <br><br><br><br></p>

I've signed myself up for this year's Conflict Scotland, an event hosted in Warhammer World, using the 'Invasion' system. It is a fairly interesting event in that the points awarded for wins/draws/losses escalates as you play more games and also as 40% of the total points is from 'soft' scores, army background and painting.<br />

<br />
I haven't had my ear to the ground the last year about competitive Warhammer so I'm glad I've got this event to look forward to and practice for. It does mean that I'm struggling to decide on an army list but after a week of work, this is my first attempt.<br />

I will be practising with this list, tweaking it where I can, but from what I heard today, by the time Conflict rolls around, I'll be using an updated codex....Xenos and Proudhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10872942925820925740noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5533866221148773024.post-55487980940508663582013-02-11T08:48:00.001+00:002013-02-11T08:48:48.155+00:00The Vleast War<p>This is a campaign I've written, similar to Forgeworlds Imperial Armour series, to describe the background to both my Tau and Tyranids. </p>

So, there's still some details to do like the green gems but these pirates are ready for combat! Indeed I had a game against a Nurgle Chaos Marine with Nurgle Demon allies army and managed to pull out a draw against the super tough troops. Love these guys, their speed and their firepower<br />
<br />
Here is a run-down of the list I use though I am looking to tweak it now that the models are nearly done, any suggestions?<br />
<br />
<ul>
<li>Prince with 3 Bladesworn with Power Swords in a Starcannon Venom</li>
<li>Prince with Jetpack in a 10 man Jetpack Corsair squad with 2 Missle Launchers</li>
<li>2 x 5 man Corsair squad in Missile Venoms</li>
<li>3 Wasps with 6 Scatter Lasers</li>
<li>2 Hornets with 4 Pulse Lasers</li>
<li>6 Voidstorms with 2 Flamers</li>
</ul>
<div>
That's 1500 with tons of upgrades so I can easily squeeze another unit in there, what would you suggest?</div>

experience to back up my arguments. </div>

I’ve only played three games of 6th and the
most exciting of which were with my Eldar Saim-Hann. They performed much more
closely to what my imagination of the Wind Rider Host is than the old rules
allowed and there are several key points where they have been boosted in my
opinion with the changes. Here’s my ideas and experiences, gathered from weeks
of mulling and a game of experience.</div>

<b><span style="font-size: 11pt;">Jetbikes<o:p></o:p></span></b></div>
<div class="MsoNoSpacing">
The new Eldar Jetbike rules are some of the most
satisfying in the whole book. What’s that GW? I can turbo-boost twice as far as
I could in 5th; have an on average 7” assault phase move; have an
additional attack on the charge; am considered T4 for instant-death (no more
Str6/7 death for my Farseer); have a 5+ cover save basic; can cast psychic
powers AND Turbo-boost; can rally below half-strength; can pre-measure so I am
always exactly 12” away, so I don’t have to guess; am the one of the only units
in the game that can still contest from more than 12” away and am the only unit
which can CLAIM beyond that. Yes, please I’ll take twenty!</div>
<div class="MsoNoSpacing">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNoSpacing">
The only downsides I think are that the assault move is
random (snake-eyes happen far too often!) and that my boost save is only 4+ and
not a 3+. However, they have massively improved and I have even been
considering dusting off my old Shining Spears and Autarch on Jetbike. </div>
<div class="MsoNoSpacing">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNoSpacing">
Explanation of psychic power AND Turbo-boost - <i>I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw this,
but as the <b>Turbo-boost move</b> is done
in the <b>Shooting Phase</b></i> <i>and it says you <b>can’t do any voluntary actions AFTER </b>the move, then you are allowed
to cast Fortune, Doom and/or Guide as <b>the
psychic powers are done in the movement phase</b>! Amazing!<o:p></o:p></i></div>
<div class="MsoNoSpacing">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNoSpacing">
Hammer of Wrath intricacies - <i>Oh and lastly, if your buddy with Jump Units says he can move 12” AND
reroll his charge he’s wrong. Look at the first paragraph on Jump Unit rules
and you’ll see you can only use the Jump action in one phase, not both. This
means that Jump Units will almost never get the benefit of their reroll charge
range or use of Hammer of Wrath as you need to have not used your pack in the
movement to do this. Conclusion: Jetbikes are better than Jump Units as they
always get Hammer of Wrath even if they moved 12” previously!<o:p></o:p></i></div>

<div class="MsoNoSpacing">
<b><span style="font-size: 11pt;">Seer Council<o:p></o:p></span></b></div>
<div class="MsoNoSpacing">
I have always used a mounted council so I will talk about
them. In my opinion they have gotten worse and are now not worth taking over
regular Guardian Jetbikes. It’s only my opinion and I’ll maybe delve deeper
later into the reasons but the changes to Witchblades are the most notable.
They have changed to S3 and roll 2D6 for armour penetration. It means that my
old AV14 killers are rendered useless, even with a 3+ to hit. They have gotten
faster though and very importantly <b>with
the changes to Psychic Hoods, Fortune cannot be blocked!</b> That is an
argument for Farseer’s though and not council’s which will fall to a horde of
Guardians in my list.</div>
<div class="MsoNoSpacing">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNoSpacing">
Psychic Hoods – <i>If
your Space Marine (but more likely Grey Knight) opponent goes to roll to block
your bonus powers, show him page 68 where it describes Psychic Hoods. They only
work if you target your opponent, meaning you can freely cast Fortune and Guide
without him Denying the Witch. Also be aware that he cannot use the hood from
within a transport vehicle.<o:p></o:p></i></div>

Everyone agrees that vehicles took a massive hit in
survivability terms in 6th. But that doesn’t matter when a single
glance would have destroyed you anyway! I actually think Vypers have gotten
much more survivable now that they have <b>2
Hull Points and a 5+ cover save (combined giving them 3 Hull Points or better
if you think about it!)</b>. Fast vehicles <b>can
now fire 2 weapons after moving 12”</b> which means every one of my Vypers is
getting retro-fitted with new underslung Shuriken Cannons. They can also <b>move 6” further than they could before</b>
and basically get Star Engine shooting-phase movement-tricks basic. Not being
able to move the squadron if one gets stunned isn’t a problem either as with 2
Hull Points, it’s likely to die anyway and you would’ve been dead anyway last
edition so who cares!? </div>

<b><span style="font-size: 11pt;">Fire Prisms<o:p></o:p></span></b></div>
<div class="MsoNoSpacing">
I still think Fire Prisms have a place in an Eldar army
even if everyone else prefers Falcons. Now, I think 6th has helped
them a fair bit as similar to the Vyper they weren’t very survivable anyway.
Before, if you took a single penetrating hit, or even a glance, then you were
either stopped from shooting, had your gun blown off or stuck in place if not
dead. None of these results were good for a Prism so the first damage result
would transform the tank into a flying ram 90% of the time. Now though, you can
<b>absorb a few glances before succumbing</b>
and you even <b>get a cover save for simply
moving, plus you can fire at the same time</b>.</div>
<div class="MsoNoSpacing">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNoSpacing">
The idea of a blast weapon for anti-tank in 5th
was horrible but now that <b>if any part of
the blast marker lands over the vehicle, it takes the full strength hit</b> has
really redeemed it. Being AP2 also has damage roll benefits so even when not
combining fire they are still lethal.</div>

Overall, 6th edition has done good things to
Saim-Hann from what I can tell so far and although I will miss always moving 6”,
getting 3+ cover saves and cutting through Land Raiders like hot butter, I
think I will enjoy the updated Wind Rider Host an awful lot better and an awful
lot more often. Now where’s my Blood Red paint......</div>

Totally worth it in my opinion!</p>
<p>Both kits (Wasp moreso than Hornet) were fantastic and have given me tons of bits to play about with. The Wasps are amazingly posable and incredibly light, though I regret not realising earlier so I could have given them all crazy light and flexible poses. I cannot wait to shoot down some infantry or better yet flyers with these babies; 24 shots at BS4 and S6 at 36" range is nice. </p>
<p>And on the topic of flyers I have been reading the new rules and played about 8 test games which I all enjoyed. Saim-Hann are going to make a massive comeback and Tyranids have become much more fun. My only few complaint are random charge (I hate it), lack of Skyfire which means flyers are king right now and the fact my brand spanking new Corsairs army list is now without an FAQ/Q&A so they are void. </p>
<p>And I just spent all that money on void models.... well played GW.... well played....</p>

The games were tense right up to the end and we met some really interesting guys (some in top hats and monocles!) but in the end we placed 8th! It's better than we did last year and we all had a lot more fun. Also, I yet again met some of my readers who very kindly signed my shirt and seemed to have done better than my team! Well done guys!<div>

<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
So, onto an analysis of the games and my list.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<u>List</u></div>
<div>
Farseer on jetbike with Fortune, both Runes and a Spear.</div>
<div>
4 Warlocks on jetbikes, Destructor and Enhance</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
2 x 3 Guardian Jetbikes with a Shuriken Cannon accompanied by a Warlock with Embolden</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
- This list was only a slight change to my last list with the main change being the Embolden Warlocks. The reroll Ld tests were found to be very important in test games however they were almost useless in the actual final. Besides that the Seer Council on bikes just do what they are meant to and beat almost anything in the face whilst never dying.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<u>Round 1</u></div>
<div>
Dawn of War, Capture and Control, vs Imperial Guard</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
- My opponent had over 80 infantry models which simply sat on his home objective in a massive squad that always tried to First Rank Fire, Second Rank Fire. This worked well for me as I simply had to endure a volley of fire before I got into combat murdered the massive unit. Which is what I did. The Council survived 78 lasgun shots and didn't take a single casualty! </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Result - Annihilated my Opponent</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjSEhVxqMCIboYJcJjb-90pTvzlG0Z_UfZfg7Jv6qV_eTnIIZ4iISTq1bQI7wkE7PGb8CQZ8c6h9XH47l2fL5xapIRFU52v2gyQu6LmKHh3ahasHY6UiwRBM8osWeJwbS5Ehh0RVPRIfog/s1600/imperial_guard_by_navalace.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="198" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjSEhVxqMCIboYJcJjb-90pTvzlG0Z_UfZfg7Jv6qV_eTnIIZ4iISTq1bQI7wkE7PGb8CQZ8c6h9XH47l2fL5xapIRFU52v2gyQu6LmKHh3ahasHY6UiwRBM8osWeJwbS5Ehh0RVPRIfog/s320/imperial_guard_by_navalace.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<u>Round 2</u></div>
<div>
Spearhead, Seize Ground, vs Tyranids</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
- Opponent had a Tervigon, Biovore, Zoanthrope, Hormagaunts, Devilgaunts and Termagaunts. This played directly into my hands as not only do I know Tyranids inside out my Seer Council are perfectly suited to kill Tyranids MCs. The game ended with my opponent being annihilated turn 4 with not much tactics besides my multi-combat with the Council against the Tervigon and its spawned unit, the Tervigon then died on the 'No Retreat!' saves. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Result - Annihilated my Opponent
</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<u>Round 3</u></div>
<div>
Pitched Battle, Kill Points, vs Tau</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
- Opponent was very competent even though he was young so kudos to you man, it was a tough game! His list was a plasma/missle commander, 2 missle/TL flamer crisis suits, a devilfish with FW, 2 x 7 FW then a broadside. I hate Tau but know them well so was confident about this game ao when I got first turn I deployed everything right up the 12" line. I charged full on and unbelievably lost 3 Warlocks to his first turn of shooting even with Fortune rerolls! I thought thought it was over but I never lost another model all game and eventually killed all of his Fire Warriors and Devilfish. I did a very good Eldar, I killed some points then ran!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Result - 0 kill points lost, 4 kill points gained</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://kofler.dot.at/40k/units/Tau_XV8_Battlesuits.gif" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="146" src="http://kofler.dot.at/40k/units/Tau_XV8_Battlesuits.gif" width="200" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<u>Round 4</u> </div>
<div>
Spearhead, Scorched Earth (modified Seize Ground), vs Mech Imperial Guard</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
- The mission was just like in Battle Missions and I was looking forward to taking advantage of the completely blocking LoS area terrain. I stupidly however went nuts with my Council, thinking them invincible, and threw them right into the Leman Russ and Melta Chimera's faces'. Suffice to say they died after causing only a little bother. I thankfully saved a draw by boosting my jetbikes about around two objectives. Lucky me seeing as I made such a bad mistake but the guy I faced was such a funny and great person (with a top hat and monocle) so I didn't mind. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Result - Lucky draw, deserved to lose</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<u>Overall</u></div>
<div>
So, overall I earned 3 wins and a draw whilst my team got 6 wins and a draw between them. Combined we placed 8th in the whole tournament! I was happy with that and can't wait until next year!</div>Xenos and Proudhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10872942925820925740noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5533866221148773024.post-14044562762927591922012-04-23T07:09:00.001+01:002012-04-23T07:09:45.525+01:00Modelling Corsairs<div><p>Been a fairly hectic week for me, but in the confusion I did go to the Schools League in Glasgow and got 3 solid wins with my Saim-Hann! This plus my teams scores put us in the final as the best team in Scotland! </p>
<p>In addition I have managed to scrape together some more corsairs but the main trouble I'm having is fighting out what heads and helmets I need. I think I'm going to have to splash out on another Corsair set and only really use the helms. I also need to get the forgeworld special weapons which is £32 for 8 guns! That'll be £50 in total for forgeworld accessories. Not good for my pocket money.... </p>
<p>In the end it's going to be worth it for the awesome army. It's just slowing me down slightly....</p>

The paint scheme was thought up vaguely over a long time (I knew I wanted purple) but the actual colours were decided in Games Workshop from their new range of paints. Whilst painting however the scheme grew and evolved to include a lot more grey and pink than I imagined but I like how it is now. </span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><span style="text-align: -webkit-auto;"><br />

<div>The models took several hours to model as I wanted to challenge myself for my Duke of Edinburgh but it really paid off when coming to paint them, I could just drybrush lots as I had used greenstuff to make things stand out. Also, the new paints, they are really nice and thick with cool colours but I don't see what the fuss is about, my old paints are fine and I have hundreds of them mostly full so why should I spend more on nothing? The ones I did get were nice and I'm glad I got them but I wouldn't get any more besides the specialised ones. </div><div><br />
</div><div>Oh and lastly, my favourite quote for this army:</div><div><br />
</div><div><span style="color: #20124d; font-size: large;"><i>'Their arrogance is matched only by their firepower'</i></span></div>Xenos and Proudhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10872942925820925740noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5533866221148773024.post-16154609488520083472012-04-07T21:48:00.000+01:002012-04-07T21:48:34.157+01:00Starting CorsairsSeeing as I am utterly in love with the arrogant Corsair imagery and I 'need' a new Warhammer project I've decided to start up a Corsair force. For this army I am going to focus a lot on the modelling and painting, trying to improve my skills and also choosing units because I like them rather than 'OMG IT KICK BUTT' because as a Forgeworld army not many people will let me use it anyway; its mainly for the looks and fluff.<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.vqwarbirds.com/images/ESMCORSAIR.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="265" src="http://www.vqwarbirds.com/images/ESMCORSAIR.jpg" width="400" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">The Eldar must have started somewhere....</td></tr>
</tbody></table>Luckily this idea of 'improving my skills' fulfills the requirements of my Duke of Edinburgh skill section (which for those non-brits is a national award thingy - google it, it's awesome fun) so I will need to keep track of my progress weekly. That's right, it means I'm going to have to update this blog frequently with awesome pictures of my Corsairs; ain't you lot lucky.<br />
<br />
So first things first, the army list. This is 1500 points but I also have a 1000 and 600 so I can collect in stages because those Forgewolrd kits will put a dent in my pocket money funds. Here's a rundown of all the units, their equipment and roles.<br />
<br />
<u><b>HQ </b></u><br />
Corsair Prince - <i>Autarch equivalent </i><br />
Power Weapon - <i>standard stuff</i><br />
Shimmershield - <i>5+ inv for him and his unit in cc </i><br />
Melta Bombs - <i>standard stuff </i><div><i><b>- For assaulting troops on objectives and such</b></i></div><div><br />
3 Bladesworn - <i>Prince's retinue</i><br />
3 Power Weapons - <i>standard stuff </i><br />
Melta Bombs - <i>standard stuff </i><br />
<i><b>- Protects the Prince and contribute 12 attacks on the charge.... oh yeah</b></i><br />
<br />
Venom - <i>Dedicated transport, oh yeah</i><br />
Scatter Laser - <i>standard stuff<br />
<b>- To serve and protect</b></i><br />
<br />
Void Dreamer - <i>Farseer equivalent but without Runes or anything cool</i><br />
Witchblade - <i>but he does have this,</i><br />
Grynx - <i>a small magical rodent to reroll one D6 every game</i><br />
Webway Portal - <i>and he also has this, win</i></div><div><i><b>- A swiss army knife with the deployment bubble</b></i></div><div><i><b><br />
</b></i> <br />
<u><b> Troops </b></u><br />
10 Corsairs - <i>Guardians basically but with BS4!</i><br />
Jetpack - <i>Love these</i><br />
2 Eldar Missle Launchers - <i>Relentless EML's....</i><br />
2 Flamers - <i>Just because I'll have them doesn't mean I'll use them</i><br />
Felarch - <i>The exarch equivalent</i></div><div><i><b>- To camp on objectives really</b></i> <br />
<br />
5 Corsairs <i>- Same as above</i><br />
Shuriken Cannon - <i>standard stuff </i><br />
Fusion Gun - <i>standard stuff </i><br />
Felarch - <i>Same as above but..</i><br />
Power Weapon - <i>with one of these</i><br />
Haywire Grenades - <i>and some of this!</i><br />
<b><i>- More swiss army knives with something deadly for anything unfriendly</i></b><br />
<br />
Venom - <i>standard stuff </i><br />
Scatter Laser - <i>standard stuff </i><br />
<b><i>- Really darn good at protecting those 5+ save Corsairs </i></b> <br />
<br />
*<b>Above Corsair squad is duplicated for double awesomeness</b><br />
<br />
2 Wasps - <i>Basically normal War Walkers except BS4 and with Jetpacks</i><br />
4 Scatter Lasers - <i>For the massive hordes at BS4</i></div><div><i><b>- Just like regular Walkers, but better!</b></i> <br />
<br />
3 Corsair Jetbikes - <i>same as regular Guardian Jetbikes but with BS4, scouts and 2 attacks base</i><br />
Shuriken Cannon - <i>standard stuff </i> <br />
Felarch - <i>Same as above except</i><br />
Fusion Pistol - <i>with a BS4 melta pistol</i><br />
Power Weapon - <i>and 3 attacks base with WS4!</i><br />
<br />
*<b>Above Jetbike squad is duplicated so I can outflank reliably with at least one</b><br />
<br />
<u><b> Fast Attack </b></u><br />
2 Hornets - <i>Basically better Vypers, twice the guns, more speed, scouts, AV11</i><br />
4 Pulse Lasers - <i>For things that don't die</i></div><div><i><b>- This unit is for anything that MUST DIE NOW</b></i> </div><div><i><b><br />
</b></i></div><div><b><u>Total = 1499</u></b></div><div><b><u><br />
</u></b></div><div>So overall it is a fast list where everything can either outflank, deepstrike or come from the webway. I really like the idea, just need to buy and build it.</div><div><br />
</div><div>P.S. If anyone can think of a banner icon for Corsairs I'd love to hear about it as I cannot think of a design for their flags and banners.</div><blockquote class="tr_bq"><b><i><span style="font-size: large;">"Their arrogance is matched only by their firepower"</span></i></b></blockquote>Xenos and Proudhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10872942925820925740noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5533866221148773024.post-88462933101654005582012-02-25T17:40:00.000+00:002012-02-25T17:40:21.167+00:00Jolly Toys Outing Overview<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">So, it seems I have not actually written a review of the event. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Well, this must be rectified.....</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">The day began well as everything was very well organised, in fact it was incredibly well organised throughout, well done OGC. I have put up a report of my first game which left me in a fairly bad place which wasn't helped when I played Dark Eldar in my second game. Suffice to say I lost horrible but my opponent was a great guy and very enjoyable to play so I didn't mind giving him 2350 VP's (spawned gaunts counted). Definitely my favourite opponent and even got round to chatting to him on Sunday again.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Never ends well....</td></tr>
</tbody></table><br />
My third game was just as bad a match-up on the last table (I had less than 1000 VP's; damn match-up) as I was playing Eldar on Spearhead in Table Quarters. My opponent had 6 War Walkers with 6 Bright Lances and 6 Scatter Lasers, 2x5 Fire Dragons, Eldrad, Falcon, a Seer Council on bikes and 2x5 Pathfinders. Suffice to say I lost as his lances, snipers and dragons murdered all my MC's with Fortune protecting them and Guide destroying me. Then his hidden Falcon and Serpents zoomed out and over-loaded my quarters. Life sucked then. Good guy though and I just had to suck it up and come back fighting.<div><br />
</div><div>My fourth and fifth games on the next day were fairly easy to be honest as being among all the other 0-3 losers I had some nice and easy marine armies to beat on. My favourite. My opponents were all friendly and decent players and as none of us were playing for good wins it was relaxing and I got to talk to many people. Thankfully I also won these two last games giving me a decent score at the end and a good feeling from my first tournament. </div><div><br />

I can't describe how awesome that was so if you guys are reading I'm glad you said hello and hope to see you again next year!</div></div>Xenos and Proudhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10872942925820925740noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5533866221148773024.post-74652476629328077142012-02-22T19:12:00.000+00:002012-02-22T19:12:43.025+00:00Jolly Toys Outing Round 1 ReviewFirstly, I didn't do incredibly well overall in the tournament, 2 wins and 3 losses; all the losses on the first day too. I faced Dark Eldar after my Grey Knight opponent which left me in last place (no chance against Dark Eldar) then to face an Eldrad army in spearhead quarters which had bright lance War Walkers and Pathfinders which simply ripped up my MC's. I did feel a bit bashed about as I couldn't do much against the second and third opponents though they were great guys to play I was annoyed as I felt I could have done better in the first game..... and here's why....<div><u><b><br />
</b></u></div><div><u><b>Turn 1</b></u></div><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiSB3HIFx3Jt6-rHdhoR_Uq5RWTsailfX7IptuGFMq0thtQnEfwAaK5QyeYXNU07rgDBgd-sqmpC_6yeKHmHZCp97LJpeMrQLmF6tAYYAjnp0rQvwvSji_EJ28KmoO47lMYLTzAGpgYkac/s1600/1st+Turn.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiSB3HIFx3Jt6-rHdhoR_Uq5RWTsailfX7IptuGFMq0thtQnEfwAaK5QyeYXNU07rgDBgd-sqmpC_6yeKHmHZCp97LJpeMrQLmF6tAYYAjnp0rQvwvSji_EJ28KmoO47lMYLTzAGpgYkac/s400/1st+Turn.jpg" width="400" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Yes, Tau are stand-in Paladins....</td></tr>
</tbody></table><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">So the deployment was Dawn of War and mission Kill Points (have to win by 3 or more). So against a Paladin list with a Libararian, Draigo, 5 Intecepters and 4 Dreadnoughts I was looking at a very hard match-up. I gave him first turn and brought everything besides the 30 Termagaunts on first turn like so and left the gaunts as a back-up, my sneaky plan.....</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">The idea here was I saw him deploy in a T shape with his Paladins and Draigo (with the Libby at the rear turn 1) so I split flank: Tervigons, Hive Guard and Venom on one side; Hive Tyrant and Tyrannofexes on the other. The idea being he must go for one and be more susceptible to a devastating charge from spawned (and reserved) gaunts in the later turns as we dance about the center. I needed to hit him with my entire army in one charge or he would win easily. I also knew that the only real way to keep my big MC's alive in combat and not force weapon'ed (thank you Brotherhood Banner) was to screen with gaunts as well so only 1 Paladin could attack the valuable MC's.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgqHlIXpVfN3lxETUKw5oPg7lrpSgUt9K3Z2JvKwF56nUaslzj94WNW9HOS0sT8KVDCCR41Eh_vNmKKssWIL4R2GlOEh-sOzZT1da6OGhohB85pkAlk8G8fQz0xHIFW9B_dh15PXyvHVFk/s1600/Turn+4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgqHlIXpVfN3lxETUKw5oPg7lrpSgUt9K3Z2JvKwF56nUaslzj94WNW9HOS0sT8KVDCCR41Eh_vNmKKssWIL4R2GlOEh-sOzZT1da6OGhohB85pkAlk8G8fQz0xHIFW9B_dh15PXyvHVFk/s400/Turn+4.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><br />
This is the start of my turn 4 after much dancing and maneuvering this was the turn I attempted my charge. The orange represents the Tervigon side which was the focus of his shooting, downing both Hive Guard broods, the Venomthrope and a Tervigon luckily for him. I had only managed to kill 1 dreadnought and 1 Paladin with many wounded though. The green shows where the Hive Tyrant was desperately moving to assault and stupidly of me shoot. My biggest mistake was not running the Tyrant as my opponent managed to exclude him from combat and avoid his deathly attacks that may have swung the game.<br />
<br />
The three gaunt squads had either been spawned or were from reserve and although there were more he cleverly made sure only about 40 could charge due to careful movement. Then quite a number died to Sanctuary or whatever power it was that made me take both difficult and dangerous terrain when assaulting; horrible.<br />
<br />
Although my opponent was pulling of clever movement tricks I was too and here I demonstrate how I managed to attack 1 Paladin with both Tervigons leaving them alive for one more turn. I had also cast Paroxysm on the unit making them much easier to hit and myself a lot harder to hit.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhDst72LKCrb7ZUqJKBsfDylROKvQNm2d76fdeXJqpbNUyk0rDDzVOtXUigCuz1DE-MFg9YoNsIY3ZcNTzplb4lgBUYf_lYiNmdvIwGDKqavwwpfXsZXQZL6Njv2UC8uf91doNA5E-IdWs/s1600/Combat.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhDst72LKCrb7ZUqJKBsfDylROKvQNm2d76fdeXJqpbNUyk0rDDzVOtXUigCuz1DE-MFg9YoNsIY3ZcNTzplb4lgBUYf_lYiNmdvIwGDKqavwwpfXsZXQZL6Njv2UC8uf91doNA5E-IdWs/s320/Combat.jpg" width="240" /></a></div><br />
All my plans went well and I eventually beat the Paladins by 3 wounds but sadly when he took his Ld 7 test he passed..... on a 7! After that the game was set as my charge had failed and all the Tyranids in that combat then died from Force Weapons and the like. Very close game hinging on one role and some very close movement, my best tactical game ever!<br />
<br />
In the end I enjoyed it and the man (ranked 7th in Rankings HQ!!!!) said I had done very well against such a tough list and player and it had been very close. Good game sir.... til next time......Xenos and Proudhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10872942925820925740noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5533866221148773024.post-34239903871127961792012-02-18T12:38:00.001+00:002012-02-18T12:47:45.013+00:00Jolly Toys Beginning<div><p>Hi all,</p>
<p>I am currently sitting in Bugmans Bar after my first game against a Draigo-wing Paladin list which I just barely lost to. I would have won 20 - 5 (max points) if his damn Paladins had not made so many invuln saves, even one more failed would have turned it. As it is I lost and I enjoyed it thoroughly and seeing as it is my first proper tournament game against Paladins for the first time and in killpoints and commanded by a man who competed in the Masters I am happy. </p>
<p>Quick run down was that he deployed centrally with Paladins and Draigo in Dawn of War deployment while I walked everything on first turn. Nothing much until turn 4 when I charged his huge Paladin unit (10 man) with a Libby and Draigo in with about 40 gaunts and 2 Tervigons with Paroxysm support. It was a close fight but I won by 3 but he passed his leadership with none to spare. This was my plan overall ruined, I won if he failed but lost if he passed. The game was decided there and although I can name what went badly and what would have turned it for me we both had our share of bad luck and he did a damn fine job of leaving my Hive Tyrant out of combat. </p>
<p>Overall, an amazing start. </p>

Suffice to say that I have read it over several times and have become hooked on the idea of fielding a Corsair army; whether this involves an overhaul of my old Saim-Hann or a completely new force is yet to be decided, by my wallet. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">As for the book and my opinion I think it is the best Imperial Armour book yet, least from what I've read, and I really loved the plot twist at the end; they managed to incorporate a personal level story line whilst also getting to play with several big titans like the Phantom! Very clever and very Eldar. I love all the amazing pictures where they use models and photoshop as they are incredibly realistic. The introduction at the start looks like an Imperial report on the war and is very well laid out and shiny smooth, impressive and well done. Overall, outstanding job.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://i127.photobucket.com/albums/p127/nikephorusLB/NeedMoreEldar.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="250" src="http://i127.photobucket.com/albums/p127/nikephorusLB/NeedMoreEldar.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
Now to the models, rules and most importantly, Corsair army list! I am sorely tempted to get a pirate force filled with Wasps and Hornets and other amazing Forgeworld goodies as they really are beautiful models and the rules are very usable (finally BS4 Guardians Jetbikes!). If I was to do one it would involve a split force to best make use of the entire product range, something like a firebase or Corsairs with jetpacks, Wasps then a fast detachment of jetbikes and Hornets with Venoms following. It should be great fun to play, a cross between Dark Eldar flimsy and Eldar firepower.<br />
<br />
Best news of all and what is most likely to tip the scale in my decision to buy into this new army is that my Gold Duke of Edinburgh begins soon and I can quite easily do this army as my skills project for a year, learning to paint it properly and take my time to convert and base well from the local GW shop manager. If I can get a decent army list and the confidence to 'invest' hundreds of pounds into resin then I'm all set....Xenos and Proudhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10872942925820925740noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5533866221148773024.post-91856200327533393182011-12-29T12:44:00.001+00:002011-12-29T12:44:15.418+00:00Survival!<div><p>One of my favourite parts about warhammer is making up rules and special scenarios. Hense the other day my friend and I spent a good several hours inventing and perfecting a crazy survival styled warhammer mission. It is incredibly fun to create and tweak the rules and the game type itself is good with each casualty being important and conflict exciting. Using Tyranids was really fun and I loved watching the Tau battlesuits flying about.</p>
<p>The basic rules were that the defender had double turns which was great fun, their models were all independent, the Tyranids appeared every turn and the waves become larger and larger until eventually Tyranid Primes and Ravenors and such appear. Here are some pictures of the Tau fighting off the Tyranids horde.</p>

This event looks set to be a great time and being styled around Nova it will be a good change of pace to my usual gaming. The games are all 200 points with some different missions from the core rulebook but with some practice they seem to be really thought-provoking and will sure to give some interesting play.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://jollytoysouting.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">This is the blog</a> and the rules pack and all information can be found within. <br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">The Grand Prize....</td></tr>
</tbody></table><br />
<a name='more'></a>Now on to the important stuff; my list and ideas. Having never really played at 2000 points before (shocking I know) I only have my knowledge collected from the 11th Company and now 40kUK to prepare myself. I will be playing furiously against my friends with practice games but really I don't expect to be that practiced going to it; all my efforts will have to be mathhammered and thought-processed out.<br />
<br />
With that in mind I want to go to have fun as I doubt I will win anything so a fun list I enjoy is in order. But at the same time I want to do well as I enjoy winning, but I love to win with an army I invented and love which hopefully will also throw people off their strategy when seeing my unusual list. As such I have spent a while ironing out my Tyranids and finding the niches I like to fill and style I like to use with them. Although the list looks rather standard I am adamant that I arrived at it with little internet help and actually thought up the synergy independently although definitely not first a while ago.<br />
<br />
The conclusion was that I love monstrous creatures and resiliency but have found through my first ever play test that at 2000 points most armies can drop a Tervigon or two a turn, which is not resilient I want at all. So I have turned to the Tyrannofex and Armoured Tyrant as both have a 2+ armour bound to help against all manner of missile launchers. I have also added back in my always loved Venomthropes to protect the big bugs. This thought actually lead me back to my original Tyranid lists code-named the 'Bio-Dozer' on The Tyranid Hive's formations thread (I used to be Tyranidanator) where the Venoms, Tervigons, Tyrant and gaunts for an impenetrable bunker. Here is the list then:<br />

<br />
What this does for me is provide a core which is very hard for enemies to take out (all the T6, 2+ armour, FnP and 5+ cover) while also shrouding with gaunts to prevent charges and claim objectives. The Tyrannofexes are a wildcard as many people dislike them but I think they are great as they really help reduce incoming firepower and are a huge nuisance to kill. Concentrated fire will of course work but doesn't it always? Best thing I think about this is that against Grey Knights I think they will be great as GK don't have a great answer to the MCs besides assault and massed shooting which I might be able to mitigate. Downsides are Necrons as all their AV13 will be a nuisance even for Tyrannofexes and they have plenty of shots to take me down.<br />
<br />
Plus side though, measured out that the Primes joined on the 3 Venomthropes will provide a 12" wide unit so a 24" wide cover bubble! That means my army can be spread to avoid blast but also means I can threaten the entire board with my Tyrannofexes and cover a huge area with Hive Guard.<br />
<br />
With Necrons just out I have been burrowing into the internet and codex to try and glean all my tactical knowledge I can from it before the tournament to be best prepared to fight them. Here's hoping an FAQ comes out quick! (....grumble ....Death Ray.... grumble.....)<br />
<br />
So anything to improve or bad match-ups I should be looking into?Xenos and Proudhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10872942925820925740noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5533866221148773024.post-37675942118859959292011-11-30T22:11:00.000+00:002011-11-30T22:11:11.748+00:00Local Tournament with TauSo my Tau have had the first every games in a local 600 point tournament. I arrived with my Tyranids and very limited Tau and rolled to see which to take as my Tyranids would steam roll to local players (it was my School League list) or my fun Tau. It turned out the dice gods liked Tau that day so they had a list thrown together and played. This was the list made of all my fully painted Tau so it is not optimal in the slightest but it was fun.<div><br />
</div><div>HQ - Shas'el, Airbursting Fragmentation Projector, Shield Generator, Positional Relay, Shield Drone, Gun Drone, Stimulant Injector - 140</div><div><br />
</div><div>Elites - Shas'ui, Team Leader, Fusion Blaster, Plasma Rifle, Targeting Array, Hard-Wired Multi-Tracker, Shield Drone, Gun Drone - 102</div><div><br />
</div><div>Troops - 6 Fire Warriors, Shas'ui, Markerlight, Carbines, 2 Gun Drones, EMP Grenades - 118</div><div>- 10 Fire Warriors, Shas'ui, Markerlight, 2 Gun Drones, Rifles, Hard-Wired Target Lock - 145</div><div><br />
</div><div>Fast Attack - Piranha, Fusion Blaster, Flechettes Dischargers, 2 Seeker Missiles - 95</div><div><br />
</div><div>= 600</div><div><a name='more'></a></div><div>This was just a throw together of my models but it worked amazingly well against some opponents. Game one was against Dark Eldar which I won due to contesting with a Shas'el; game two was a loss against Ork but it was very close with just a mistake on my part losing it; game three was another loss against drop pod Space Wolves.</div><div><br />
</div><div>Some notable points were during game 2 when the Orks had turbo boosted 2 trucks on and my Piranha boosts on too. Both markerlights hit both trucks and both seekers streak at 180 degrees from each other at right angles to the Piranha and explode both trucks! An absolute epic moment which left my opponent gob-smacked and vowing to kill it. He assaults it with 20 shoota boyz who then take 13 casualties due to Flechettes! Absolutely stunning. The Piranha was immobilised but really made it's money that game.</div><div><br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Imagine this, but 100 times more cool and Tau!</td></tr>
</tbody></table>Game 3 against the drop Wolves went badly as I just couldn't hit anything with my suits and the Piranha missed all game with everything (including Seekers!). The Wolves just beat my army up wholemeal. I learned that Helios are not reliable at all though may be better in bigger games with better targets.<br />

Thanks to the lovely advice from the folks at both Advanced Tau Tactica and The Tyranid Hive I have decided upon, not only a colour scheme, but also the ratio of the colours on the models which is a lot more difficult than it sounds. Here are the results of a week of toiling.<br />

I'm not sure what the last drone will be used as, maybe a shield drone or marker drone. Either way I just love the sight of all those drones and can't wait to get more!Xenos and Proudhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10872942925820925740noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5533866221148773024.post-19872961540543453862011-11-01T20:45:00.001+00:002011-11-01T20:57:51.014+00:00New Tyranid TacticsRecently my friend Ko'vash and I have been furiously dueling between his Tau and my Tyranids to improve our tactics and deeper thinking (plus nobody else wants to play me). This has definitely given me a greater insight into developing my tactics even though we have barely changed our army lists.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://hippiefreak12.files.wordpress.com/2010/12/tyranid_swarmlord.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="200" src="http://hippiefreak12.files.wordpress.com/2010/12/tyranid_swarmlord.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">So firstly, here are the army lists:</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="background-color: white;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Times, 'Times New Roman', serif;">Tyranids:<br />
- Swarmlord with Tyrant Guard with Lash Whips - 410<br />
- 2 x 2 Hive Guard - 200<br />
- 2 x Tervigons with Toxin Sacs, Adrenal Glands and Catalyst - 390<br />
- 2 x 15 Termagaunts - 150<br />
- 12 Genestealers and 13 Genestealers - 350<br />
= 1500<br />
<br />
Tau:<br />
- 2 x [Shas'el with Plasma Rifle, Missile Pod and Multi-tracker; 2 Shas'vre with Plasma Rifles, Missile Pods, Targeting Arrays and H-W Multi-trackers plus 1 with a Drone Controller and 2 Gun Drones]<br />
<br />
- 2 x 3 Crisis Suits with Twin-Linked Missile Pods, Flamers and Multi-Trackers with a Team Leader with a Gun Drone<br />
<br />
- 2 x Hammerhead with Railguns, Burst Cannons, Multi-tracker, Disruption Pod, Flechette Dischargers and 1 with a Target Lock I believe<br />
<br />
- 2 x 6 Fire Warriors with Devilfish with Gun Drones and Disruption Pods<br />
<br />
= 1500 ish</span></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Times, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: 12px;"></span></span></div><a name='more'></a><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Times, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br />
<u>Battlereport</u></span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Times, 'Times New Roman', serif;">This Tyranid list of mine is different to what I had been using previously as I had included a Prime and some Devourer Gaunts which I swapped for the Genestealers. I really liked this change as it let me use the following simple strategy.</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Times, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br />
</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Times, 'Times New Roman', serif;">The mission was Seize Ground with a Pitched Battle deployment and I got to place objectives first. I placed them as centrally as possible so my strategy could work best. I then set up very centrally with everything but the Genestealers which outflanked. I drove these all quickly forward into the Tau's lines (losing a Tervigon to the Plasma suits stupidly) which caused the Tau suits to crunch up to the back board edge (meaning is they fell back they were goners) and shunting the tanks to the flanks (Genestealers.....). </span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Times, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br />
</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Times, 'Times New Roman', serif;">Everything was running forward to claim the objectives and just as planned I caused enough moral tests for most of the crisis suits to turn tail and run. The Genestealers in their big groups assaulted and eventually destroyed the Hammerheads although taking many casualties to those damned Flechettes! </span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Times, 'Times New Roman', serif;">The Devilfish were then quickly stopped which left all of my troops on objectives in the centre while the Tau were stuck beside their destroyed or immobilised transports. Win for the Tyranids.</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Times, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br />
</span></div><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEil2sB-DYHWBAxNpKGakh8N-IRNIeQwVAB9rFq11zRz8XNB3bBJB2lY7Lzy2-aVs7_1drLJRGfO01_-R0J1WlF4MIwyqta5L6yGNDlgbxX3RqjA3LHeHI1JjImeCo1i3hmmDdLq9lvQFYI/s1600/Stealer+Push.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="205" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEil2sB-DYHWBAxNpKGakh8N-IRNIeQwVAB9rFq11zRz8XNB3bBJB2lY7Lzy2-aVs7_1drLJRGfO01_-R0J1WlF4MIwyqta5L6yGNDlgbxX3RqjA3LHeHI1JjImeCo1i3hmmDdLq9lvQFYI/s400/Stealer+Push.jpg" width="400" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Map, Objectives are Purple Dots (IMPORTANT!)</td></tr>
</tbody></table><br />
<div><u>Strategy</u></div><div>I walked into this game with a strategy in mind which fortunately played well into the scenario; push into the centre and surround with Genestealers. The reason I like to think it worked so well however was that right from the start I was thinking about this overall strategy. I placed my objectives centrally while limiting my opponents ability to place them on the flanks. This was great as it meant the objectives were where I was going; I wasn't going to the objectives.</div><div><br />
</div><div>I was handed first turn which I used to get close fast. I ran everything and kept moving to push the Tau to the back, away from the objectives and towards the back board where his suits would run off of if even broken once. It did not matter how many Gants or Tyranids in general died as long as the Tau were pushed back. The Genestealers did excellently as they really put pressure on the flanks and slowed the skimmer tanks. </div><div><br />
</div><div>It sounds simple (and it is!) but I firmly believe that having an overall strategy from the get-go, right at the start, is the key to victory.</div>Xenos and Proudhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10872942925820925740noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5533866221148773024.post-10428089173719329202011-10-30T12:14:00.000+00:002011-10-30T12:14:08.771+00:00Tau Painting: Piranha and Crisis SuitsI have finally got around to finishing my Crisis suits and rather quickly finished a new Piranha which I have converted to look more like an aircraft as I dislike the big wide front of the original design. I also painted a Fire Warrior up in the new scheme to see how it would look. It turned out well so I think I will need to buy myself some more boxes...<br />

Hence I gleefully pre-ordered Imperial Armour: Apocalypse Second Edition with high hopes having been very pleased with the Taros Campaign. I bought this book thinking I would be able to pick it up and use the cool, clear cut units inside in my games of warhammer and apocalypse with all the rules I'd require either included or referenced clearly on the label. Is that reasonable?</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjdhexmywt_C5_er2GusCaQvay9FzeKNmMLFBMVZHn3OUmW-BKH3hTvVqx_NFtn_F9sbQ85RtKE4ndV6znofKTwU_iXYvmsbI-T9pzovwAR1ek-TGO_3_0yUKD6cXQTSLIx168fg5QJBy8/s1600/apoc2ndcover.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="272" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjdhexmywt_C5_er2GusCaQvay9FzeKNmMLFBMVZHn3OUmW-BKH3hTvVqx_NFtn_F9sbQ85RtKE4ndV6znofKTwU_iXYvmsbI-T9pzovwAR1ek-TGO_3_0yUKD6cXQTSLIx168fg5QJBy8/s320/apoc2ndcover.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Now I won't say I was disappointed but I had expected more. There are some clever little ideas and cool new units kicking about but in my opinion they are drowned in a slurry of recycled models, unthought rulings and sometimes atrocious spelling and grammar. Here's my personal run down.</div><br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
<br />
<b><u>The Good:</u></b><br />
- There is an excellent opening with a clear labeling system throughout stating that the unit is either meant for normal 40K or Apocalypse. It even says it is polite to ask before using Forgeworld rules which although obvious I have always wanted to see in print. - <span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: lime;">Great Start.</span><br />
<br />
- The book is very well laid out in Games Workshops distinguished data sheet format which is a joy to see while flicking through the high quality paper wrapped in a nice hard-back shell. The pictures and painting are also, top-notch. - <span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: lime;">Excellent Presentation.</span><br />
<br />
- Some of the rules, units and formations are very original and interesting. Take the new 'Drone Perimeter Defense Team', an absolutely amazing and unexpected surprise which is great if you ever wanted to make a Tau defense force (i.e. Every Tau commander worth their Shas!). This continues with the 'Dreadclaw' a Chaos variant of a Drop Pod which I think every Chaos player has been crying for years to get (I have never heard of it but I may be mistaken). - <span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: lime;">Some Great Units that we actually Wanted!</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: lime;"><br />
</span><br />
- The back of the book has a condensed version of the Apocalypse rules which isn't bad though I find it fairly hard to comprehend and understand I appreciate the concept of making one book which has all the material required to use all the material inside it. - <span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: lime;">Including (semi) full rules.</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://theweinblog.files.wordpress.com/2011/08/thumbs-up.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="200" src="http://theweinblog.files.wordpress.com/2011/08/thumbs-up.jpg" width="191" /></a></div><br />
<br />
<b><u>The Bad:</u></b><br />
- One thing that really grinds my gear is un-thought through and un-researched work from an international company. There is no excuse for the Orca to suddenly have room for 7 more Fire Warriors than the actual model has room for! 55 is not a multiple of 12 or even 6 Forgeworld! - <span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: red;">Know your own products!</span><br />
<br />
- Saying, '<span class="Apple-style-span" style="background-color: white; color: #015561; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 18px;"><i>Included are new Forge World units such as the advanced Tau XV-9 Close Support Armour</i></span>' then only including an XV9 special character is a bit misleading. I was looking forward to using and .....<i><b>buying</b>.....</i> some new models Forgeworld, but looks like I can't now, what a shame. - <span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: red;">Misleading!</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: red;"><br />
</span><br />
- Throughout the book I am constantly told to refer to other books and sources with the intro saying, ''This book is best used in conjunction with [all other codexes/rulebooks]''. Unexpected from a 'comprehensive' book. - <span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: red;">Not all the information is included or obviously referenced to beforehand.</span><br />
<br />
- Worse still, one of their main armies, Imperial Guard, have two new tanks called the <i>'Dominus</i>' and '<i>Macharius Omega</i>' which both do not have a picture but instead '<i>INCONSENSUS' </i>printed over a shadow. Really? In a book '<span class="Apple-style-span" style="background-color: white; color: #015561; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 18px;"><i>accompanied by lavish photographs</i></span>'? - <span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: red;">Further Misleading!</span><br />
<br />
- This one really jumped out at me, there was a constant reference to something called 'Target Priority', remember that old 4th edition rule? Apparently it still exists according to the '<span class="Apple-style-span" style="background-color: white; color: #015561; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 18px;">updated Apocalypse rules</span>'. - <span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: red;">Failing to provide updated and comprehensive rules.</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: red;"><br />
</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://blakparent.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/12/thumbs-down1.png?w=81" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="200" src="http://blakparent.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/12/thumbs-down1.png?w=81" width="108" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">I really hoped that this book would be fully self-supporting, only referencing to the core rulebook and being fully up-to-date like a Codex. That is what I wanted, even if it might only include a selection of units it would still be great. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Overall I like this book, or rather the gems hidden inside it. There are some very useful rules and more importantly ideas inside but I keep thinking I could write better rules. I did mainly get it for inspiration but I still wanted to use it for games. I was also disappointed about the lack of 'comprehensive-ness' and sadly, I think I need to go out and buy more books to find out more.....</div>Xenos and Proudhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10872942925820925740noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5533866221148773024.post-49616531975692235122011-10-02T22:15:00.000+01:002011-10-02T22:15:39.630+01:00Sawfish Completed!After a weekend of hard work painting I have finally finished my favourite converted model I own! <div><br />

This is the first painted model of my Tau Cadre so sets the colour scheme which I think has turned out well.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiTmHO-XLUInJvNj134Q7TfLXfFqXSu6-xi-ZBye5R4up8qF0rAHeJ_zBpY6YNqIQwUSAnzhmG6NqrZcFyvJUOzqGeVVtntEMFN9TcbYP6oQgBC_bM0FTiCUSIdLzewMzAhbgFPCnJPgxg/s1600/100_1954.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiTmHO-XLUInJvNj134Q7TfLXfFqXSu6-xi-ZBye5R4up8qF0rAHeJ_zBpY6YNqIQwUSAnzhmG6NqrZcFyvJUOzqGeVVtntEMFN9TcbYP6oQgBC_bM0FTiCUSIdLzewMzAhbgFPCnJPgxg/s320/100_1954.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
I love the camouflage aspect of the Tau so picked a colour scheme that looked stealthy. My Cadre being on a very harsh, stormy and rainy world I decided to go with grey.<br />

The stand was difficult but I managed to add a pin to the model to keep it secured to the flying base when in play.Xenos and Proudhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10872942925820925740noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5533866221148773024.post-67121324869121842782011-09-20T20:00:00.000+01:002011-09-20T20:00:39.830+01:00Tyranid Prime: Tactical MusingsOne of the recent experiments I have been investigating in my Tyranid army is the inclusion of a Tyranid Prime. I made the model out of a desire to make something awesome out of a spare warrior but now having used 'Peter Prime' in the field, he may become more than a trophy model.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjr4u6MDBhlBdlQq4Qg3lV_lATKxPHb5NXtRm2uB5Qy4kpHBfe99dg8LuPup6cVZmX2nH-P9SlGa9golp0AczFz3w40XW6yDGpfBZLb4k1kUTIeG1FCnLCUWSk2xYBdSB9mxpylcJ_ljME/s1600/100_0383.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjr4u6MDBhlBdlQq4Qg3lV_lATKxPHb5NXtRm2uB5Qy4kpHBfe99dg8LuPup6cVZmX2nH-P9SlGa9golp0AczFz3w40XW6yDGpfBZLb4k1kUTIeG1FCnLCUWSk2xYBdSB9mxpylcJ_ljME/s320/100_0383.JPG" width="240" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Firstly, I run Peter with a very generic role in mind and his bio-morphs reflect this. He always hangs out with a unit of gaunts (usually Devourers) to provide some proper close-combat support to my weaker models and some extra light firepower. Equipped with dual boneswords, adrenal glands and a deathspitter he is a little over 100 points but does his job very well. The deathspitter can deal reliable damage but it is in the assault he really shines: charging with the gaunts he strikes first (I6!) so his power-weapon cannot be diluted through wound allocation and at a whopping S6 his numerous attacks usually make a decent mess of whatever he meets. This is great for providing a little surprising punch to a gaunt unit to help them definitely kill that unit in the assault. Even after the initial charge he is very effective which helps swing combat results when his gaunt bodyguard get only half the attacks in subsequent phases.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Another great use for him I have found is assassination. With my big Swarmlord and Tervigons hanging about little old Peter slips through the net most times unnoticed. This means he can go and make a mess of an enemy commander, special unit or similar which is made much easier with his dual boneswords (remember the 3D6 instant-death!). I once took down a Demon Prince who otherwise would have wreaked my army with Peter.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Finally, as he is such a small target he is often ignored and when put in a unit of gaunts the whole unit is lost among the monstrous creatures and other targets. This lets Peter become a very firm rock of synapse when my Tervigons start dying and the Swarmlord is away from the objectives beating face. Being 'babysitter' may not sound like a great position but it is often the crux of a game, keeping synapse on an objective and keeping the Hive Guard picking the correct targets.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Overall, my Tyranid Prime is my Swiss Army knife, able to fill any role I want him to from close-combat assassin to fire support. I think he will remain in my standard army for the time being.....</div>Xenos and Proudhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10872942925820925740noreply@blogger.com0
