The Pirates in Purple

Been a while but not in vain! I have been working on completing my Corsair pirate band and am nearing my goal. Here's my efforts so far:

Hornets with Pulse Lasers
Still trying to glue/pin the weapons onto their thin resin mounts. Tricky.

The last half of the jetpack squad with 2 EMLs.

Void Storms! I used the Guardian bodies for these to give them a more agile look.
They have 2 Flamers for deep-striking and cooking purposes.

A Venom corsair squad with Fusion Blaster, Shuriken Cannon,  Haywire Grenades and a Power Sword.
Everything you need to harass pretty much anything.

The Warlord Prince and his bodyguard, Power Weapons and S4 Rending is pretty nice but not amazing.
I'm thinking of swapping these out for Harlequins which have much more punch.

The two Venoms for the Corsair squads both armed with EMLs.

So, there's still some details to do like the green gems but these pirates are ready for combat! Indeed I had a game against a Nurgle Chaos Marine with Nurgle Demon allies army and managed to pull out a draw against the super tough troops. Love these guys, their speed and their firepower

Here is a run-down of the list I use though I am looking to tweak it now that the models are nearly done, any suggestions?

• Prince with 3 Bladesworn with Power Swords in a Starcannon Venom
• Prince with Jetpack in a 10 man Jetpack Corsair squad with 2 Missle Launchers
• 2 x 5 man Corsair squad in Missile Venoms
• 3 Wasps with 6 Scatter Lasers
• 2 Hornets with 4 Pulse Lasers
• 6 Voidstorms with 2 Flamers

That's 1500 with tons of upgrades so I can easily squeeze another unit in there, what would you suggest?

First unto the Painting Table!

So as promised here is the first batch of my Corsair army. The paint scheme was thought up vaguely over a long time (I knew I wanted purple) but the actual colours were decided in Games Workshop from their new range of paints. Whilst painting however the scheme grew and evolved to include a lot more grey and pink than I imagined but I like how it is now.

The models took several hours to model as I wanted to challenge myself for my Duke of Edinburgh but it really paid off when coming to paint them, I could just drybrush lots as I had used greenstuff to make things stand out. Also, the new paints, they are really nice and thick with cool colours but I don't see what the fuss is about, my old paints are fine and I have hundreds of them mostly full so why should I spend more on nothing? The ones I did get were nice and I'm glad I got them but I wouldn't get any more besides the specialised ones. 

Oh and lastly, my favourite quote for this army:

'Their arrogance is matched only by their firepower'

Drone Invasion

Continuing my Tau army is proving to be much more fun than expected seeing as I loved painting over 15 drones this last week. Thanks to the lovely advice from the folks at both Advanced Tau Tactica and The Tyranid Hive I have decided upon, not only a colour scheme, but also the ratio of the colours on the models which is a lot more difficult than it sounds. Here are the results of a week of toiling.

I'm not sure what the last drone will be used as, maybe a shield drone or marker drone. Either way I just love the sight of all those drones and can't wait to get more!

Tau Painting: Piranha and Crisis Suits

I have finally got around to finishing my Crisis suits and rather quickly finished a new Piranha which I have converted to look more like an aircraft as I dislike the big wide front of the original design. I also painted a Fire Warrior up in the new scheme to see how it would look. It turned out well so I think I will need to buy myself some more boxes...

After a weekend of hard work painting I have finally finished my favourite converted model I own!

Barracuda

I finally plucked up the courage to take a brush to my Barracuda model and trust myself to not make a mess of it. This is the first painted model of my Tau Cadre so sets the colour scheme which I think has turned out well.

I love the camouflage aspect of the Tau so picked a colour scheme that looked stealthy. My Cadre being on a very harsh, stormy and rainy world I decided to go with grey.

Swarmlord Completed!

I was never happy with the Swarmlord as he was very wobbly as I hadn't pinned him and had really rushed building and painting him. His paint had also chipped a lot really quickly as I hadn't bothered with varnish either.

So with some 'spare' time I had between exams I redid him entirely: pinned him to his base and waist; pinned his Bonesabres on; went over the cracked paint; washed him again in Badab Black (love this stuff); painted his details like teeth and eyes and even put detail onto the Bonesabres. All in all I am proud of him and even baptised him with a name: Say hello to Harry!

Swarmlord Painted

I actually painted this guy up a while ago but I just haven't had time due to my exams: they're killing me!!

But anyway, he still isn't 100% done as his torso is in two bits and his legs are a bit wobbly so he will need some repair work but his paint job is tabletop standard which is the important thing. I intend to improve his Bonesabres and add some more detail but I cannot be bothered the now, too much going on. As always enjoy what I've done so far however and leave some advice on what I can improve please.

Painting Progress

So everyone, I have been quite busy lately with school and such but here's the (limited) painting progress I have made.

These are my 16 new Genestealers, drybrushed, painted and here in the process of being washed. I'll be using them in games soon, trying them out and seeing how they work with my army.

I had great fun building this Tervigon and even more fun painting it in my simple colour scheme. I made it from a Trygon kit and a spare Carnifex head. Hope you like it:

Chipping and Varnish

Hey everyone,

Today I bought myself some Purity Seal Varnish from GW to (hopefully) protect my chipping metal models. My metal models always seem to chip no matter what I do. I buy a big case to protect them in inches of foam, they chip during play and even against the foam. I take off the sticky coating of the models with a wash in water before I prime them, the Fire Dragons still ship in a week. I buy an expensive varnish from GW and .........

Just as pricy as the rest of their stuff, but is it worth it?

.....well hopefully this will finally stop my 'expert' painting skills from being chipped away. I will give the Fire Dragons a coat first then if they survive the the test of time the whole army gets a coat. One thing I need to watch out for is the sheen the varnish might leave. Although it says it dries to a matte finish, similar to that of the paint I am sceptical. Eldar are meant to be shiny but my Zoanthropes aren't.

So has anyone used this before or know of a better varnish? Any tips or things to watch out for?

The Painting Wall of DOOOM!!!

One thing I've been finding recently that I have been doing less and less painting. I have almost stopped completely. I think I have hit the painting wall! It is the point where you just can't be bothered to pick up a brush.

Jetbike Colour Scheme Tests

So I have been working on my Jetbikes, trying to find an easy but effctive colour scheme. Here's my first try:

The highlights aren't really that bright.

It is not entirely finished as I still need to add the jewels and finish the driver. But what do you think so far? I'll post finished pictures ASAP.

Work In Progress (WIP) Vypers

Here's my vypers that are still on the painting desk. The highlights are really bright in the pictures, they are not really that bright.

There is another squadron all of which are equipped with star cannons to slay marines and other high-armour targets.

What do you think so far? Would anyone like a tutorial?
