Imperial Armour: Apocalypse Second Edition Review

Like many gamers I am a fan of reading rules and I especially like meticulously combing through a new book, unit, weapon or anything to search for interesting and thoughtful additions to the game. Hence I gleefully pre-ordered Imperial Armour: Apocalypse Second Edition with high hopes having been very pleased with the Taros Campaign. I bought this book thinking I would be able to pick it up and use the cool, clear cut units inside in my games of warhammer and apocalypse with all the rules I'd require either included or referenced clearly on the label. Is that reasonable?

Now I won't say I was disappointed but I had expected more. There are some clever little ideas and cool new units kicking about but in my opinion they are drowned in a slurry of recycled models, unthought rulings and sometimes atrocious spelling and grammar. Here's my personal run down.

Dreadfleet... Why oh why?....

What has everyone in the Warhammer community been crying out for? Games Workshop thinks it is another special edition board game based on the high seas of Warhammer fantasy. Anyone else thinking the same thing? No, didn't think so......

Why does Games Workshop decide to invest a considerable amount of time, effort and ever-precious money to make a silly game like this? No doubt it will be fun.... the first time... when you don't use half the overly complex rules that are undoubtedly going to be involved.

I would much prefer the writers to be spending their time updating their current codexes that their loyal fans have been waiting patiently for a number of years. Or even reviewing the mistakes in their previous works....

Where are my Tyranids GW??

OK this is sort of a rant but a rant worth saying.

WHY HAS THERE NOT BEEN A SINGLE TYRANID RELEASE WAVE YET!?!?

This has been bugging me for some time as I love my Tyranids and would love to see more and better models but this just isn't happening.... No new models, no Forgeworld stuff either, no hint of any updates or anything that could be construed as such. It's a sad time to be a Nid.

What's worse is that not only are the 'poster-boy' armies like Space Marines getting more attention than us bugs ( I can deal with that) but just recently the Dark Eldar have been given their THIRD wave of new models!

OK I admit they did need some major releases but if you look at everything that has been done to Tyranids it is just depressingly sad. The FAQ came out 8 months after the codex and that actually made the codex worse. Then although our codex is filled with units with no models at all (Tervigons, Swarmlord, Sky-slashers, etc...) we have not been given a single new model since the codexs' release.

Arg rant over.....

P.S. The Drak Eldar stuff is sweet though... just wish Tyranids would get some of that modelling love...

Schools League Postponed!

I had all my units packaged neatly; all the rulebooks stowed; my army lists cleanly written; all the models freshly painted; my packed lunch packed and my hopes set high.

Then Schools League gets postponed two days before the event. 

I am not happy........

...... It has been postponed two weeks until the 29th. 

My rage lessens with laughter......

However I did get four games with my friends instead so I will get some pictures and reports up when I cool down. I learned a lot of things in those games so I will share my new knowledge later.
