About Xenos and Proud

This is a small blog about my Warhammer 40,000 hobby. I will try to concentrate on the tactics behind the general game and my Xenos armies but there will be the odd post about random stuff.

About Me

My photo
Aberdeen, United Kingdom
Xenos and Proud is an 18 year old from Scotland who has been playing 40K for the last 4 years. He loves the 'under-dog' xenos armies, namely his Tyranid Gorgon splinter fleet, his Saim-Hann windrider host, his Tau Vleastean Hunter-cadre and the newest addition, the Shadowfax Corsairs. Although his tactics are mostly 'borrowed', his painting skills still 'developing' and his luck becoming evermore 'ridiculous' he continues to play, paint and roll in the hope that one day things will get better.

Recent Gaming Marathon

This weekend two of my friends came over who are both in my team for Schools League to practice. We ended up playing what must have been 12 games between us non-stop, throughout the night and into the morning, (whooh no sleep) which were 90% small practice games for Schools League.

A large portion of this time was spent testing my Tau friends (Ko'vash) new Eldar list which he is swapping in to use instead of his Tau which hadn't worked out for him the last two tournaments. As the resident Saim-Hann player I was instructing him how to use it properly and was also testing out some new lists of my own; trying out Space Marines and Tau and adjusting my Tyranids.

So first here is Ko'vash's new Eldar list he used:

HQ - Farseer, RoWit, RoWard, Guide - 100
Troops - 2 X 5 Dire Avengers in Wave Serpents with TL Shuriken Cannons - 320
Elites - 5 Fire Dragons in Wave Serpents with TL Shuriken Cannons - 180
= 600

Tyranid List Development

As I continue to play Tyranids my army continues to evolve, appropriate. I have found that my current list has two weaknesses which are addressed in this list. Firstly, my Venomthropes never lived past turn 1 in my last 5 games so they need protected. The easiest way to do this is to add a Prime to the unit to provide instant death protection and close combat power.

Next is to add some anti-infantry firepower as all my killing potential is in the assault, I need something to soften up my targets before assaulting. Here my old Devilgaunts step in to provide buckets of shooting at a decent range. Very cool.

'Finalising' my Tyranid Army List

After almost a year of having the new codex I think I have finally decided upon my 'standard' Tyranid Army List. I will go over the tactics I commonly use in depth over the next few weeks as this army really needs a lot of explaining if you are to fully understand it, let alone get it to work.

HQ
Tervigon
- Toxin Sacs
- Adrenal Glands
- Catalyst
= 195

Another Finished Tau Army List

Ok so here's what I think is my best army list and what I will get. It has blockers, tank suppressors, reliable tank killing, semi-mobility, semi-durability, anti-MeQ, anti-horde, pinning and markerlights.

Old but funny.....
HQ
Shas'el Fal'shia Taal Doran'sha'is
 Plasma Rifle
 Missile Pod
 Positional Relay
 Hard-Wired Multi-Tracker
 2 Shield Drones

Preparing for Schools League

So I've finally decided on what to take to Schools League which is only 3 days away. It getting exciting. For my list, if there was any doubt, I am taking a swarmy tyranid list. So with that decided on Monday I then spent Tuesday night painting these:

Tyranid 1500 Swarmy Swarmy

With Christmas coming up and hopefully some more Tyranids along with it I am thinking of all the ways I can use the reinforcements. Mostly I am wanting a swarm as now I use lots of warrior-sized beasts like Raveners, Zoanthropes and Hive Guard so want a change of pace.

A good old Tyranid Swarm seems like a good way to go as people have difficulty dealing with the spawned Gaunts from my Tervigon when they have support from Venomthropes, the Hive Tyrants Old Adversary power (giving them preferred enemy) and the Tervigon giving them Feel no Pain. So if they have problems with 20 Gaunts, think about the problems of 90+ Gaunts, all with the above benefits but preferred enemy. The Hive Tyrant was just to expensive for what it does and the arms keep falling apart.

Mmmm..... Biomass......

Revised Tau 1500

This is my revised 1500 points Tau list. I wanted it to be mainly fun with lots of background as I just love the Tau technology, the suits, the ships, the tanks, the politics, the language, all of it. So this is meant more for fun and fluff than pure competitiveness.

The basic story is covered here. Because the army is entirely based around the crisis suit teams then thats where most of the points have gone and work gone into. The rest of the army just represents the Tau force the Or'esha is fighting beside. I have given each team a name in Tau and a little bit of a fluff idea. This means I can personalise each suit with cool conversions. Also here's where I found the Tau words and names. It is amazing.

However I don't want it to get hosed every time. So any opinions are appreciated.

School League Army

Here's a list I have been turning over in my head for the last month or so for the League. It's 600 points and designed to be nasty and to win but it is limited with the rules. Only 1 Elites and a choice of either one Fast Attack or 1 Heavy Support. and the usual minimum of 1 HQ and 2 Troops.

My Eldar Army List

I realised recently that I hadn't put up my actual army list on the blog, only pictures and fluff. So without further ado here it is:

Redone Tau Missile List

I have been thinking more about the Tau missile list. I have decided I will use that instead of the 'normal' one I suggested yesterday as it seems to have more character with the crazy amount of missiles and the ability to have two identical firebases will be fun.

750

Shas'el with TL missile pods, Airbursting frag and a Target Lock - 93
2 Shas'vres with TL missile pods and Targeting arrays - 126

3 Crsis suits with TL missile pods and Targeting arrays - 159

6 Fire Warriors in Devilfish with Disruption pods - 145

10 Kroot - 70

2 Broadsides with a Team leader with a Target lock - 150

Total = 743

Tau 'Missile Mania'

I have always liked Tau. They were my first army but I couldn't play them well so scrapped them for Eldar. Now recently over the last few months I have started getting back into them since my other two armies (Nids and Eldar) are all bought and in full swing.

I have considered a Mech army but already have Saim-Hann Eldar so don't want full mech but still need some mobility. So here's two 1500 point lists. The first is crazy and the second not so much.

Missile Mania

It will look something like this...........
