About Xenos and Proud

This is a small blog about my Warhammer 40,000 hobby. I will try to concentrate on the tactics behind the general game and my Xenos armies but there will be the odd post about random stuff.

Xenos and Proud is an 18 year old from Scotland who has been playing 40K for the last 4 years. He loves the 'under-dog' xenos armies, namely his Tyranid Gorgon splinter fleet, his Saim-Hann windrider host, his Tau Vleastean Hunter-cadre and the newest addition, the Shadowfax Corsairs. Although his tactics are mostly 'borrowed', his painting skills still 'developing' and his luck becoming evermore 'ridiculous' he continues to play, paint and roll in the hope that one day things will get better.

Where do you paint?

Hey bloggers,

I never realised until recently how important where you paint and make all of your models and armies is.

It occurred to me as I was painting in my dark, cold cellar that since I spend so much time sitting there it really should be nice, warm, bright and comfortable.

So I stopped what I was doing and got to it, rearranging all of the furniture, adding more shelves, grabbing a more comfortable chair, adding more lights and shifting a gas heater down the stairs to warm the place up.

Here are the results:

Desk already littered with paints and models.
The 'new' shelves filled with stuff.
The place has already been 'personalized' with all my warhammer stuff but it is 100 times more organised and better than what it used to be. The most important changes are crucial to every workplace:

- The shelves take all of the stuff out of my way but still has them easy to find and see.
- The heater makes it a comfortable place to be.
- I can sit in the seat for more than 2 minutes.
- More lights make it brighter and easier to see the detail without squinting. However there is no natural light which is much better than artificial.

I have turned my dungeon into a workplace where I want to be, not somewhere where I grudgingly paint models in the dark. It is much better.

Of what I have painted I have noticed a difference in the models and how I paint, in the fact I paint it all at one time! Not a little every few days. It is defiantly an improvement.

So where do you paint?

Can you improve it?

Can it improve you?

  1. I just set up my paints and models onto the coffee table in front of my TV! More often than not it's me and my flat mate sitting watching a movie or anime whilst we paint stuff, Not exactly the best set up!

  2. Ha, I used to do something similar. I just set up shop in front of the TV and watched Discovery channel or something. It wasn't bad but I got bored painting and just watched TV.

  3. Ever found yourself getting sick of the glue smell?

Paint in the kitchen and cover it all up with the smell of cooking fish!

  4. I have to be aware of the glue and paint smell in the cellar as they are dangerous and you get used to them after a while.

I also have to spray outside and I usually have a fan on to help vent the fumes.

Also I hate the smell of fish!

  5. Yeah... I spray in the garage, usually with the big doors open. It is just like spraying outside, but the worry of having the paint cover up the flooring is a lot less when the floor is just concrete. (bare in mind I am still a massive newbie and I haven't got my army painted yet)

On an unrelated note, but joined post so as not to annoy you, who are you playing on Monday? I'm fairly pessimistic about my chances of having a 650+ army ready and I was wondering if I didn't manage if you'd still be okay for numbers
